Mountain Fest is an event sponsored by the Northwestern Frederick County Civic Association, INC. It raises money for student scholarships. This year it was October 14 and 15. This was the first time our club participated. We had a good turnout. Evon Barvinchack, Lee Burkholder, John Hough, Bill Krofft, Rod Stabler, Carroll Stottlemyer, Esther Stottlemyer, Jim Stottlemyer, and Ken Walker all helped people of all ages turn a pen. Nancy Stottlemyer assisted with pen blank preparation.

As usual, our activity was primarily directed at young people. We did have maybe 20 to 25% adults join us. This was the first turning experience for almost every one participating. From the smiles on their faces I am sure that they had a good time.

We received quite a few compliments from the organizers. Before the first day was over we were asked to return next year. One called us the most popular and talked about thing at Mountain Fest. We also received inquiries from two other organizations asking if we are interested in coming to their shows. We may try to add one of these next year since it is in Greencastle.

This is an activity that once you do, you are hooked. All of our members did a great job teaching and representing the club. Without exception they would do it again.

The club invited a local church youth group to the club to learn how to turn a pen. Our volunteers Jim Stottlemyer, Carroll Stottlemyer, Pam Caldwell, Joe Wertner, Nelson Zullinger, and Evon Barvinchack made this event possible, and provided the guidance needed for the kids to learn and enjoy the experience of turning.

December 2nd and 3rd 2016

As part of the Gingerbread Festival in Gettysburg PA., the club set up two lathes to give kids and adults the opportunity to turn a pen.  There were approximately 40 pens turned at the event.  Our volunteers were Bob Robinson, Jim Stottlemyer, Beeler Caldwell, Pam Caldwell, Rod Stabler and Bill Krofft.

                      2015

December 1, 2016

The club held its annual Christmas Party at the Waynesboro Fire Station #2

On February 6, 2013, our new lathe arrived and there was a work day to assemble the lathe and run a 220 line.  Volunteers also held a work day on February 20, 2013 when they took down the video and moved it closer to the center of the room.  After reinstalling the video camera system a second TV was added so no one will miss any part of a demonstration.  They also got started hooking up the dust collection system so we all stay healthy.

We would like to say a big "thank you" to the volunteers for making these great improvements!
